Winter Blues got you down?
Winter is in full effect and here in New England a lot of people struggle with seasonal depression, including us! We wanted to share our favorite ways to show yourself some self care this winter. These are things that help us get by before spring!
Creating a routine.
This is an important one because it can be so easy to stay in bed all cozy, especially when you're feeling down. While we also suggest snuggling in bed with a good book and a cup of tea, its important to get things done and be productive so you stay on top of things and reduce anxiety that comes with a big to do list! We do this by setting non negotiable's! We are all about mental health and getting rid of the stigma, so we wanted to share that our number one non negotiable is taking our mental health medications! When we make this our number one goal of the morning more good is to follow. We are more likely to eat and drink a good amount of water, since we are already in the kitchen and out of bed! We set goals for the day and give ourself a block of time for when we will get it done so we can realistically see where our free time falls for other things that may not be at the top of our list. Remember, the most important part of this routine is working in some form of self care!
Doing yoga.
Yoga has been a real saving grace in our life. What we love most about yoga is everyone can do it! Yoga is not just for humans who are already fit. Yoga can be done by anyone! They have yoga for all levels of fitness as well as adaptive yoga for people with disabilities. It can be done in a class or right at home using YouTube! It's also for all body sizes! It's great for stretching, building muscle and it's amazing for your mental health! It can be so good at clearing your head since you're engaging your entire body! We incorporate this into our routine!
take a hot bath.
This might seem like the most basic thing ever but this is a favorite for the winter cause not only is it relaxing but it's warm and cozy! We always suggest getting creative with your baths. Buy yourself some oils, salts or bath bombs! You can play music, read a book, light a candle and relax.
Find a new hobby, FaceTime a friend, bundle up for a walk. Whatever your favorite form of self care, we hope this can be a good reminder to do a little extra for yourself during this winter season.
